Framer vs Wixan honest, reviews-based comparison
I'm Tommy. Friends kept asking me whether to pick Framer or Wix for their next site, so I compared the two using real reviews from G2, Product Hunt and X instead of marketing pages. I try to be as impartial as possible: each tool wins at something different.

Reviewers rate Framer 4.8 and Wix 4.2
Aggregate scores first, because they are the least gameable signal. Framer holds 4.8/5 on Product Hunt and 4.5/5 on G2. On G2, Wix sits at 4.2/5 (G2, ~1,900 reviews). Close scores, different review content: Wix reviews praise ease of use and complain about renewal pricing.
The design ceiling gap: Wix fills templates, Framer gives you the canvas
This is the axis the two tools are actually built around. Wix gets you live fastest: template in, text swapped, done. The cost is that most Wix sites look like Wix sites. Framer hands you a Figma-like canvas with auto-layout, real typography control and best-in-class animations, which is why 228 Awwwards-recognized sites run on it and why agencies build client work there.
The middle ground matters too: Framer also has templates and an AI agent that builds editable pages from a prompt, so the "get something live today" story is covered. The honest concession: for ecommerce breadth, Wix clearly beats Framer. From the $29/mo Core plan you get payments, shipping, bookings, subscriptions and a mature app market. Framer has no native store at all: teams pair it with external checkout services when they need one, or keep the shop on another platform and use Framer for the marketing site.
Wix is also the easiest path for a complete beginner, with AI generation available on the free plan. The cost is design ceiling and per-pixel control, which is exactly what Framer users pay attention to. If "looks professional enough" is the bar and budget rules, Wix is a rational choice and I tell friends that directly.

My verdict: pick by the job, not by the hype
Pick Wix for a cheap simple site, a local business page or a small online store where design ceiling does not matter. Pick Framer for marketing sites, launches and portfolios where design quality, animation and shipping speed decide the outcome; it costs less at entry and its output does not look templated.
Lock-in tilted my own weighting more than pricing did. Wix has no site export at all. Framer's React Export plugin (full disclosure: I built it) outputs components you can keep developing in Next.js or any React app. Both have free plans, so the cheapest way to decide is to build the same one-pager in each and see which workflow clicks.
